IT IS FINISHED

I would like to start by asking you two questions. One: Can you can give an accurate definition of the phrase: "Lamb of God"?

We all know that this is one of the names used for Jesus, like Messiah, Savior, Son of Man, or Christ. But exactly what is the importance of the name "Lamb of God"?

And why is it important to me as a Catholic? The second question I would like to ask you is: Why the Catholic Church would offer The Holy Eucharist every day at every Mass throughout the world in over 3000 languages.

What knowledge do they have that would make them feel compelled to do this for thousands of years? In answering this question, we'll see why the Catechism of the Catholic Church states that "The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life.'" (CC 1324)

I rejoice that you experienced such a meaningful gathering. When I participate in Communion at church, I often feel overwhelmed by my strong connection with other believers, something that had been missing in my life for a long time. May the Lord help us grow in wisdom and a commitment to community among believers. I believe these things essential to life.

The spirit of the "potluck," a tradition in many NA Lutheran congregations, is often an Emmaus experience - it often brings about great fellowship, a chance to get to know your neighbours better and it seems there is always an abundance and variety of food for sharing.

I also think of a township community I was hosted in South Africa during the World Association for Christian Communication Congress in 2008 - the community shared what little they had and cooked an authentic spread for us, mere strangers in their midst. Their hospitality will be treasured forever.

Years ago, while serving on LWF staff in Geneva, my wife and I invited a South African colleague and his wife to dinner in our home. We served cheese fondue. My South African colleague stopped eating and said with emotion, "Not only are we guests in your home, we're eating out of the same pot!" You see, they are black and we are white and this was in the bad old days of apartheid.
